During Pregnancy

It is safe to eat cooked scallop in moderation during pregnancy.


Scallop is rich in many vitamins and minerals like vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, B12,E, K, C, folate, potasium, calcium, magnesiu, zinc, iron and copper.


Folate, or folic acid is a must for women before and during pregnancy as it helps to prevent birth defect.


Zinc and vitamin C together can help to boost immune system of the pregnant women.


Iron in the scallop can help to prevent anemia as iron is important for red blood cell formation.


However, due to pollution, there is mercury found in the scallop. Presence of mercury in the pregnant women has been found to be related to some birth defects and this heavy metal usuaully will stay in the body for quite long.


Therefore, you should limit the consumption to one or two times in a month.
