Frequent urination refers to a condition in which children need to urinate more than normal number of times. Under normal condition, your children tend to urinate more often than adults as they have smaller bladders which process the fluid faster. However, if your children need to urinate about 20 to 30 times a day, this is abnormal.
Causes
Very often, frequent urination is caused by the emotional stress that the child is experiencing. Punishment, criticism, change of environment that causes a change in your child's daily routine, departure of a family member and threat can usually cause this problem.
Some boys may have long foreskin, this foreskin may trap some urine alkaline which can stimulate frequent urination.
Urinary tract infection is another common cause, but this is usually accompanied by urgency to urinate quickly and pain.
Treatment
1. Help your child to relax
Make sure your child has game time every day. Do not arrange too many activities for him or her. Do not ever criticize or jeer at him or her for frequent urination.
If there is quarrel between any family members, restoring the happiness and harmony will also make your child less tense.
2. Furthermore, you should tell your child that his health is fine, and do not need to worry.
3. Reassure you child that he can wait a bit longer to urinate
4. Wetting himself is a common fear. Try to tell him that all children will wet themselves and tell him that he actually can hold the urination a little longer. Reward him if he can make it. However, do not overload your child as holding it too long may in the end cause infection.
5. Seek doctors' help if you think it is not the tension that causes this problem.
