Large Families Scheme: More Support for Parents with Three or More Children
In a continued effort to support larger families and encourage parenthood, the Singaporean government introduced the Large Families Scheme (LFS) on February 18, 2025. This initiative provides additional financial assistance to families with three or more children, aiming to ease child-rearing costs and promote a family-friendly environment.
Key Benefits of the Large Families Scheme
1. Enhanced Child Development Account (CDA) First Step Grant
For each third and subsequent Singapore Citizen (SC) child born on or after February 18, 2025, the CDA First Step Grant has been increased from $5,000 to $10,000. These funds can be used for approved child-raising expenses, including preschool fees, medical expenses, and healthcare insurance premiums.

2. Large Family MediSave Grant (LFMG)
Parents will receive a $5,000 grant credited to the mother’s MediSave account for each third and subsequent SC child born on or after February 18, 2025. This grant can be used for maternity expenses, hospitalization, and approved outpatient treatments for both the mother and her dependants.
3. Large Family LifeSG Credits (LFLC)
Families will receive $1,000 annually in LifeSG Credits for each third and subsequent SC child during the years the child turns 1 to 6. This includes children born before the scheme's implementation — specifically those born between January 1, 2019 and February 17, 2025 — provided they are six years old or younger in 2025.
The LFLC is disbursed through the LifeSG app and can be used at merchants accepting PayNow UEN QR or NETS QR. Eligible purchases include groceries, household essentials, transport, and pharmacy items.
Why the LFS Matters
The scheme is a strategic part of Singapore's broader efforts to address the nation's aging population and low fertility rates. By reducing financial barriers and increasing support for larger families, the government hopes to create a more encouraging environment for raising children.
Minister Indranee Rajah described the initiative as “part of our long-term strategy to strengthen support for Singaporean families and to empower parents to confidently raise larger families with less financial stress.”
Eligibility and How to Apply
- The child must be a Singapore Citizen born on or after February 18, 2025 (for the CDA and LFMG grants).
- The LFLC benefit also extends to children born between Jan 1, 2019 and Feb 17, 2025, if they are six years old or younger in 2025.
- Parents do not need to apply separately for these benefits — eligible families will be automatically notified through LifeSG or CPF portals.
