Heroic Toymakers @ Mint Museum of Toys
Some toys are not just playthings. Some toys have a story of their own and reflect the journey of their maker. Learn about one such collection from MINT Museum of Toys – the Door of Hope dolls.
Hear the touching tale of how abandoned girls adopted by the Door of Hope missionary in Shanghai learnt to make dolls so they could survive in a largely patriarchal society in 1920s China. Through these stories, appreciate how toys can bring hope and light the way forward in dark times.
Workshop
Participants will become toymakers themselves, just like the Door of Hope girls. They will learn about Pebblechild, a doll maker that empowers Bangladeshi women by employing them to make crocheted dolls. Participants will each receive a Pebblechild doll and DIY materials for them to decorate and dress up their doll back home. By putting the final touches onto the doll to make it their own, they will get to be a part of the heroic toy making process too!
Who must attend?
- This programme is recommended for children aged 5 – 12 years old.

- Young children will develop their fine motor skills through the workshop activity
- Children will grow their knowledge and understanding about the history of toys
